The Japan Northern Alps, over 8,000 feet high and centered around Mt. Tateyama, are a famous mountain range for climbers. They are in the eastern area of our jurisdiction, and many mountain lodges in each trail there operate food and accommodation businesses under our licenses.
These lodges’ operations are subjected to various environmental restrictions, such as severe snowstorms in winter. The maintenance of a good level of food sanitation requires extensive know-how, such as the transportation of daily commodities, security of drinking water, trash storage solutions and so on.
Because of that, we have been holding sanitary seminars and consultations regarding food poisoning prevention for the lodges’ workers over 40 years every summer.
In addition, we have deployed specialists to these mountain trails for sanitary inspections, where they stay at the public field office located at Tateyama’s halfway point. It is a common institute to prepare for emergencies used by mountain rangers and officers belonging to The Forest Agency and The Ministry of the Environment.
